The professional Intensive
What is CORE | The Professional Intensive?
The Professional Intensive is a 17-day immersive experience and creative process designed for dancers ages 17+ who are seeking to refine and deepen their intention and purpose as artists within the dance community.
This experience invites dancers into a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment where they are given time and space to explore their relationship to movement, self, and art. Through classes, movement exploration, journaling, guided conversation and an extensive creation process, dancers are supported in listening inward, asking meaningful questions, and engaging honestly with their authorship as evolving artists.
Throughout the experience, dancers are immersed in a collaborative creative process that culminates in the creation of a full-length work. The piece developed over the course of the Intensive is shared at the end of the experience through a live performance, offering dancers the opportunity to participate in performance as an extension of process, presence, and collective authorship.
Dancers will have the opportunity to:
Take a variety of contemporary-based movement classes
Explore improvisation techniques and tools
Engage in a guided journaling and reflection process
Learn from and work alongside guest artists
Take part in a conceptual photo and video shoot
Participate in thoughtful conversations inspired by movement and process
Build community with like-minded artists
Receive Mentorship and Artistic Guidance
Experience and contribute to an extensive creation process
Learn and perform repertoire
Mentor and participate in SHIFT | The Summer Experience (June 26-28)
Dance is not something we own. It is something we share.
Two Pathways, One Shared Experience
The Professional Intensive offers two pathways within the same immersive process. Both pathways participate fully in the experience, creation, and performance, while engaging with the work from different places of familiarity, responsibility, and relationship to the p(art) practice.
Applicants are invited to reflect honestly on which pathway best supports where they are entering from.
The Foundations Pathway is designed for dancers entering the p(art) process for the first time. This pathway centers orientation, listening, and discovery. Artists are invited to slow down, establish trust in the process, and build a personal relationship to p(art)’s approach to movement, reflection, and community. No prior experience with p(art) is expected — only openness, curiosity, and a willingness to engage honestly.
THE
FOUNDATIONS
PATHWAY
THE
CONTINUUM PATHWAY
The Continuum Pathway is for dancers who have previously participated in The p(art) Project Professional Intensive and are returning to deepen their relationship to the work. This pathway invites artists to step further into authorship, mentorship, and shared responsibility. Continuum dancers help support group dynamics, hold space for collective process, and contribute to the evolving culture of p(art).
The Foundations pathway may be a good fit if you are:
New to The p(art) Project
Curious about refining your relationship to training and performance
Seeking space to listen, reflect, and orient yourself within a shared process
The Continuum pathway may be a good fit if you are:
Returning to The p(art) Project Professional Intensive
Interested in mentorship and community stewardship
Ready to deepen artistic responsibility within a shared practice
All dancers, regardless of pathway, participate fully in classes, rehearsals, reflection, creative process, and performance. The distinction between pathways is not hierarchical and does not reflect technical level or status. Instead, it exists to honor different points of entry into the p(art) process while maintaining a collective, collaborative experience.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The Professional Intensive prioritizes shared process, intention, and community over competition or comparison. Rather than rushing toward outcomes, the experience holds time and space for reflection, listening, and collective creation.
-
A typical day of CORE begins with journaling and group conversation, creating space to center before moving. Class follows, led by Kelly or a guest artist, rooted in contemporary technique, improvisation, and creative exploration.
The second half of the day is dedicated to the creative process, learning repertoire, witnessing the work, and contributing to its development. Each day is guided by intention, while remaining open enough for the process to lead.
-
The Professional Intensive is a select group of approximately 20 dancers. This allows for depth, care, and a strong sense of community within the experience.
-
Not being accepted into the Professional Intensive does not mean you are not valued or aligned with the work. Space is limited. Many dancers are invited to remain in relationship with p(art) through other experiences such as SHIFT, The p(art) Invitational, The Fall Workshop or ECHO (for alumni).
-
No, but dancers are encouraged to attend if they are curious. These experiences offer a felt sense of p(art)’s values and approach and can be helpful before applying to CORE | The Professional Intensive.

“p(art) created space beyond comparison and validation. It reminded me that being human already includes being an artist , that I don’t need a title to justify my existence or my creativity.”
